Creatinine calibration in NHANES: is a revised MDRD study formula needed?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Selvin et al recently published a study in AJKD concerning the calibration of serum creatinine in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). 1 Calibration of creatinine is important for precise results when using the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Study equation, especially when calculations involve low creatinine values. 1-3 A re-expressed version of this equation, generated with an isotope dilution mass spectrometry-traceable method (Roche Diagnostic, Indianapolis, IN), has been proposed, in which the factor 186 is replaced by 175 after calibration. 4 However, the way this new factor has been obtained seems questionable. 5

Evaluation of Glomerular Filtration Rate Estimating Formulas in Diabetic Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease
Objective: Measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the best determinant in assessment of kidney function for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. As extremely accurate methods of GFR measurement (i.e. Inulin clearance) are expensive and Time-consuming and due to limitations of the 24 hour urine collection method, some formula have been developed for the GFR measurement. Here we have ...
متن کاملCan modifications of the MDRD formula improve the estimation of glomerular filtration rate in renal allograft recipients?
BACKGROUND Two modifications of the MDRD equation [the Mayo Clinic (MC) equation and Rule's refitted (RR) MDRD formula] were proposed to overcome disadvantages of the original MDRD formula to calculate glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Additionally, a correction factor for the original MDRD formula has been introduced to adapt this formula to creatinine values measured by the isotope-dilution m...
متن کاملA comparison of the predictive performance of different methods of kidney function estimation in a well-characterized HIV-infected population.
BACKGROUND Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation equations have never been validated in the HIV population. This pilot study aimed to compare all currently available methods of kidney function assessment with nuclear GFR in HIV-infected adults. METHODS Patients underwent GFR measurement with (99m)Tc-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (Tc-99m Pentetate), and measured values were compared...
متن کاملCreatinine production, nutrition, and glomerular filtration rate estimation.
This study examined the validity and clinical implications of the assumption of the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease Study (MDRD) formula that age, gender, race, and BUN account for creatinine production (CP). The relationships of MDRD GFR, CP, and nutrition were examined in 1074 Dialysis Morbidity and Mortality Study Wave II patients with reported measured creatinine clearances at initiat...
متن کاملMDRD or CKD-EPI study equations for estimating prevalence of stage 3 CKD in epidemiological studies: which difference? Is this difference relevant?
BACKGROUND Prevalence of stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing according to the NHANES study. Prevalence has been calculated using the MDRD study equation for estimating glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Recently, a new estimator based on creatinine, the CKD-EPI equation, has been proposed which is presumed to better perform in normal GFR ranges. The aim of the study was to measure...
